Happy New Year 2026
Happy New Year! 2026 is shaping up to be a year of significant change for ModuOps, and I'm excited to share what's ahead.
ModuOps Continues for Another Year
First, some great news. Thanks to the generous support of an Angel investor, the current version of ModuOps will continue to be available for another year. This ensures you can keep using the tools you depend on while I work on what's next.
The Re-Write Is in Full Swing
The ModuOps re-write is coming along nicely. This isn't just an update—it's a complete rebuild from the ground up using React with TypeScript, powered by Electron. If you don't know what any of that is, no worries. Just know that it's proven technology that is widely supported and has millions of developers who know how to write software using those tools.
What does this mean for you?
- Mac and Windows versions will continue — no disruption to your current platform
- Linux version finally arrives — a long-requested feature is becoming reality
- Tablet support is on the research roadmap — I'm exploring what it will take to bring ModuOps to tablets
My #1 Goal: Familiar First
The primary goal of the re-write is to bring the current ModuOps experience to the new app as closely as possible. I'm not trying to reinvent everything at once. First, I need the new app to work like the current app does. Once I achieve that foundation, I'll branch out with new features and improvements.
Your .mop2 files will be 100% compatible with the new version. Your work is safe, and the transition will be seamless.
Powered by AI
One of the reasons I've been able to make significant progress in such a short amount of time is by leveraging AI throughout the development process. AI has become an invaluable tool for accelerating the re-write, helping with everything from code generation to problem-solving. It's allowed me to move faster as a solo developer than I ever could have on my own.
See for Yourself
This isn't smoke and mirrors. The new user interface is modern, easy to navigate, and finally responsive—scaling properly to different monitor sizes. Here are a few screenshots showing my progress:

See It in Action at Amherst Railway Society Show
I'll be at the Amherst Railway Society Railroad Hobby Show in West Springfield, MA at the end of January 2026. Stop by to see the new version of ModuOps in action and chat about what's coming. It's a great opportunity to get a hands-on look at the re-write and ask questions.
Want to Get Involved?
If you know React and TypeScript and want to contribute to the ModuOps re-write, I'd love to hear from you! Whether you're looking to help with development, testing, or just want to be part of bringing the next generation of ModuOps to life, please reach out. Contact me via email and we'll chat.
Looking Ahead
Thank you for your continued support of ModuOps. 2026 is going to be an exciting year, and I can't wait to share more progress with you along the way.
Here's to a great year of model railroading!
